Our Story
It's been a long time coming and I'm sure most of you have been
here for a good portion of this ride, but just in case you've missed some things along the way, here is our story.
Looking all the way back to 2013, we were both Psychology students attending Lakehead University. We like to say that's where we met, which isn't a lie since we did meet in person for the first time at the university library, but only after having a month's worth of conversations online first. Our first meeting was almost disastrous: Sarah's phone died on the way there, and she had to borrow a charger from a student trying to study at the library in order to figure out where we were suppose to meet. After a successful first meet up, Sarah attempted to hug me goodbye at which point I froze and patted her on the back in return. After that mortifying exchange, I was sure I had messed everything up, but luckily she texted me to apologize for the hug if it was too forward and I was able to explain that, no, I just become a bumbling idiot
around pretty girls.
After quite a few dates, we decided we should probably make things official
and fumbled our way into asking if we should consider ourselves in a relationship on November 13, 2013. Following half a year of slowly spending more and more time together, Steph (Sarah's roommate at the time) and her future husband Aaron decided to get an apartment together - which left Sarah, who we all know would never survive on her own, in need of a roommate, so I valiantly offered to move in. Shortly after, she one-upped my fast-moving lesbian u-hauling by then (for my first birthday in this relationship) buying me a dog.
Fast forward one roommate (hey Sam!) and two moves in just as many years later, and we find ourselves in 2015, Christmas Eve to be exact. After a couple months of planning, and what felt to be the equivalent of herding cats, I was able to get most of our close friends and families together for the proposal. Alone in the sanctuary after the Christmas Eve service, I asked Sarah to dance with me; as the song finished, our family and friends entered the sanctuary to listen to me awkwardly mumble a few things about how she was the best thing that ever happened to me and how I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. As Steph provided fantastic ambiance in the form of full on sobbing, Sarah accepted my proposal...and then quickly made a mad dash to the bathroom - I had held her hostage after service in the sanctuary, as I couldn't risk her seeing all our family gathered and potentially figuring out what was about to happen.
We contemplated on how we wanted to move forward with our wedding:
should we save up for a house first, would it be in a church, what did we want out of the whole ordeal? Countless times over the past 11 years, Sarah has turned to me in exasperation and demanded that we just elope, to which I always retort that I do not love her enough to face the wrath of either of our families if we were to do so. But all jokes aside, we knew from very early on that we would spend the rest of our lives growing, and loving, and laughing, and crying together; so really, what was the rush? A few bumps in the road, a major pandemic, and a couple of landlords who decided to sell their houses later and finally, we decided enough was enough. We would set a date and if everything wasn't exactly perfect, then so be it, we would have each other and the company of you lovely people, and that would be more than good enough for us.
That pretty much brings us to today! As we look forward to September 13, 2025, we can truthfully say that we are blessed to share our lives with so many lovely and caring people, and we can't wait to have you there to celebrate this special day with us.

All our love and thanks for joining us in this adventure,
Katie and Sarah
